What is Going On [WIGO] in primary elections across America tomorrow? Perhaps a snapshot of that neverending story according to Ben Franklin: “keeping a Republic”. Not just any Republic; but, the one we have been given…according to the exact Giver ‘mentioned’ in our Declaration of Independence and Constitution. After all, anyone can say ‘give’ …or ‘take’ …while giving and taking whatever he pleases.

And that is WIGO tomorrow, fellow Americans. Not because I say so, nor any person of whatever feeling or expertise feels or says so. Rather, because that is how the gift of ‘choice’ … works in human beings. And in this Republic, for now, each person’s ‘choice’, however that person makes their choice, counts as 1 vote… if that person votes.

Notice the usual blizzards of ads and flyers and banners and posters and speeches and endorsements and promises. Wouldn’t all that money be better spent ‘creating jobs’? Of course it would. But there seems to be, as the English so drily put it… “a bit of a slip, twixt the cup and the lip”. What does that mean?

It means there are huge gaps between saying and doing. Between promising, and delivering. Between choice, and what kind of choice. Between fair, and equitable. Between opportunity, and entitlement. Between education, and indoctrination. Between feeling, and considering.

These and all distinctions rest on each individual’s willingness and ability to reasonably compare and contrast. The quality of this process depends on each individual’s willingness and ability to seek the best choice. ‘The best’ choice is a moral, not an emotional question.

A far simpler, quicker, more passionate choice is to do what you are continually told you must: “whatever you feel”. “If it feels good, do it”. And, “you have to do what’s best for you”. This is the popular, exciting, organized way to do it! This way you’ll always get many Passionate People Who Truly Know and Care…telling you exactly what to feel and do. Tune to any station, to any TV channel, to any internet location, 24/7 – Tellers of passion and excitement Tell you exactly how to feel about the latest crisis, and who’s to blame, and to give the Teller more power!

So, tomorrow we all have the opportunity to vote, by choosing who to vote for, however we choose.

Yet it is not who we vote for, nor how we feel, that makes an ‘exceptional’ vote. By ‘exceptional’ vote, I mean a vote that expresses a voter’s choice to respond to Ben Franklin’s old challenge to all American citizens at the birth of our Federal Republic: to “keep it”.

WHY go to all this trouble? Why not ‘just vote’? Why not ‘let my favorite’ do whatever needs to be done? Why not vote for the most exciting, charismatic Teller? Geesh…just do it already!

Sounds great! Feels better! Destroys our Republic! Why? This Republic depends on ordinary people making extraordingary choices: devoting their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor …that this government of the people, by the people, and for the people does not perish from the earth.

This Republic depends on selflessness, not selfishness.

The preservation of this Republic depends on the sacred honor of enough ordinary individuals, because like any nation, it is a bunch of naturally selfish people, trying to do what’s best for me. Out of these many many, this Republic requires e pluribus unum to survive.

This unum is sacred honor. Sacred honor depends on morals. Perhaps events public and personal have given you some clues that these morals are not ‘just morals’, ‘our morals’, or saying ‘moral’ or some whatever like it. Rather, certain morals. Certain morals backed by Ultimate Authority – not from men. And not from any religion or no religion of men. Certain morals are not a matter of just sayin’, or just feelin’ … but… just following them, come what may, because you individually recognize their Universal and Absolute Authority of righteousness. And most of all, practically, recovering after each fall, back towards those same, certain, morals.

If you want to know what certain morals, don’t ask me or feel whatever or depend on some Teller. Go…read…our Declaration of Independence and Constitution Preamble. Comprehend what it says. If YOU do NOT apply these certain morals, on what authority or oath do you now expect our leaders to do so? Where is any unum in the pluribus of ‘whatever anyone feels’?

Then, consider choosing candidates who best strive for [they do NOT 'possess' it, they STRIVE for it] the ’sacred honor’ our Founders described. This…will be continually difficult, because it requires careful observing, comparing, and contrasting. Most of all, it requires discerning between the mountains of chaff of our feelings and would-be Tellers, for WIGO with the few who would most probably continue to strive for ’sacred honor’ in office…come what may.

In other words, vote for imperfect individuals, who because they accept the Authority of certain morals, hold THEMSELVES responsible and accountable for whatever they say and do, to the standards of those certain morals.

Not ‘true believers’. Not those ‘better than you’. Not folks who ‘feel right in their own mind’ or ‘have to do what I think is right.’ Not ‘the expert’. Not The One Who Cares, Really. Not elites. Not the best Teller, speechifier, charismatic. Not a blamer or accuser. Why?

Simply, because these behaviors reveal the selfish motivations we each and all naturally feel daily…regardless of whether or not we face our selves. Doesn’t it ‘take one to know one’?

Consider the oath of office for elected officials of this Republic. Consider whether any person who does not accept and hold himself accountable to the morals behind that oath, is qualified to hold that office.

Put another way, why would you expect a person who owns his own morals, ethics, god, beliefs, or passions…to follow some other authority besides…himself? Why would a person who feels his ends justify his means…do an about face and suddenly follow some oath to some other authority? You wouldn’t expect a person to sell himself to something he does not ‘believe in’…would you?

Why take your feeling or some Teller’s telling about this matter? Does not each person reveal what he feels, what he values, and to what he holds himself accountable…in every word and deed, every day? All any person needs to do rationally, regardless of their personal beliefs or feelings, is compare what a would-be leader says and does…to the certain morals in our Declaration and Constitution.

That is, if We The People are to keep our Republic. So, if YOU would ‘elect’, first ‘elect’ the certain morals of this Republic, in order to e pluribus unum those who will serve this Republic…and no other…according to the sacred honor they have so far displayed in their words and actions.
